For 26 years, Joleen Alison has relentlessly pursued multi-discipline project exposure. Before starting her own practice in 2008, she worked at seven diverse architecture firms, gaining experience in all phases of design and construction on an extensive variety of project types. In the past 10 years, she has provided construction specifications on nearly 800 projects, giving her a breadth of knowledge across innumerable construction methods, products, materials, and industry standards. Joleen Alison is a licensed architect in the states of North Carolina and New York, and a member of the American Institute of Architects. She is a Certified Construction Specifier, a LEED Accredited Professional, and a member of the Building Enclosure Council. She holds a current NCARB Certificate allowing her to expedite an architectural license application in any US state.

601 Massachusetts Avenue
This 650,000 SF development takes up a full city block in the heart of Mt. Vernon Square. Beginning five-stories down for below -grade parking it rises an additional 12 stories to include restaurant and retail at grade, and Class A corporate office space above. Roof terraces provide dramatic view of the Capital Building and the Washington Monument. The large central atrium utilizes structural glass fins to support the structural-sealant glazed curtainwall.

Georgia State University Student Housing and Dining Hall
This new 11-story precast concrete 252,000 SF student housing development provides 1150 new beds, a 15,000 SF dining hall, community spaces, administration offices, live-learn classrooms and student amenities. The room types are 2-bedroom shared suites with primarily 4 beds per unit with some 2 beds per unit. RA apartments, lounges, study rooms, kitchens, and laundry rooms are provided on each floor. With an extremely tight budget and a very aggressive construction schedule, this project has gained recognition among the construction community for marriage of efficient modular units and inventive design. The façade is a combination of thin-brick veneer and stained precast panels. The vibrant blue stripes are painted with an elastomeric coating.

The articulating wood spine flowing from outdoor to indoor recreation and relaxation spaces engages users and invites movement and activity.

With 185 years of rich history, the renovation of Decatur Presbyterian Church was designed with the spirit of preservation and sense of heritage. Offices, meeting rooms, and classrooms were reconfigured and updated and new accessible toilets and egress stairs were delicately integrated into the existing plan. Talley Student Union, NC State University

The new Talley Student Center transforms a 40-year-old 119,000 SF student union into an exciting, interactive, and interdisciplinary student-life hub. The project demolished the existing bookstore building and Gregg Museum, creating new student commons and courtyard. The iconic Technology Tower marks the location of a future pedestrian bridge to North Campus. Amenities include diversified dining, centralized department and student organizations, performing arts and cultural activities venues, an art museum, support offices, and integrated indoor/outdoor spaces. The existing Stewart Theater received areas of renovation, ADA accessibility upgrades, and new HVAC and Sprinkler improvements. The entire Talley Student Center received hazardous materials abatement as part of the renovation. This two phase major renovation and addition of the Talley Building included a total of 290,462 gross square feet when complete. Estimated construction cost was $89,000,000.

When Johnson Maserati arrived on a tight site sharing service, maintenance, detailing and parking with both Johnson Hyundai and Johnson Subaru, Johnson Subaru needed a new home. With very little space available, a two-story glass showroom facing the street was added to the existing service and parts department. A new car bridge connects the new showroom to an existing car elevator. New sales offices replaced an existing car wash tunnel, and a two-story customer lounge and elevator were integrated into the new showroom.

In 2000 I chose NC State to complete my degrees in Architecture and called Raleigh my home base until 2023, when the love of architecture and true pedestrian living compelled me to move my practice to NYC.
When I'm not providing specifications support for my clients, you will find me exploring the city, discovering new cultures and cuisines around the world, running along the Hudson River, testing my limits in the weight room, and breaking a sweat in the hot yoga studio.
